HANS RICHTER
Encounters. From Dada till today
27 March - 30 June 2014

Hans Richter (1888 – 1976) was a painter, film-maker and writer. But above all he was an artist who had great influence on society – a trendsetter. His artistic range extended from Expressionism through Dadaism, Constructivism and Surrealism to completely new forms of film art. He made an important and unique contribution to Modernism. He operated in a network of creative artists that included Hans Arp, Hugo Ball, Marcel Janco, and the anarchist poet Ludwig Rubiner. Among his colleagues in the Constructivist Internationale were El Lissitzky, Malevich and Schwitters. He also knew film pioneer Sergei Eisenstein and Werner Gräff. The exhibition shows 150 works by Richter and some 50 works by his internationally esteemed colleagues of both sexes, thus reflecting the ground covered by these artistic personalities.
