CATTERED SHOWERS – FORMS OF WEATHER
Curator: Antje Krause-Wahl
8 March - 19 May 2013

The starting point of the exhibition "Scattered Showers - Forms of Weather" is the surprising amount of contemporary artists whose interest in the weather draws on its complex relationship to the immediate realities of our surroundings. Concrete forms and effects of weather play a central role in their work. Phenomena such as snow, ice, rain, fog, clouds, wind/storms, lightning, and sunshine are investigated and translated into aesthetic constellations; sometimes they even become a genuine component of the works, in which the materials used are exposed to the weather or it "actually" rains or storms in the work itself. Some artists focus on the need to record, control, or simulate the weather, raising questions as to the controllability of nature. For other artists, the weather serves as a metaphor. The exhibition "Scattered Showers - Forms of Weather" is about potential perceptions of the weather-as a premise for a technological or political change of course. To this extent, the project could be considered as laying a kind of artistic groundwork. The exhibition will occupy the entire exhibition space (800 sq m) of the Frankfurter Kunstverein.
