Art-project Zikr was presented in 2009 in a wing of the Ruins of the Moscow Museum of Architecture.
The concept of "Zikr" or "remembrance" refers to the Islamic spiritual practice, namely, the glorification of the divine name, repeated utterance of prayer formulas, which aims – to be closer to the Almighty. During the zikr special rhythmic motion can occur, sometimes there was some postures and controlled breathing. The practice of zikr is used mainly Sufi brotherhoods, headed by Sheikh-teacher.
But apart from religious component I was deeply touched by problems of the modern world of globalization, blurring of national and religious backgrounds. The global mass culture, pop-art and ethnic tradition - the concept is largely incompatible. It is this "border", examines the struggle of opposites "Zikr", bringing images to the net metaphor.
“New technology, industrial arts, industrial materials, odors, geometrical shapes faced with a strong author's search for values anthropological”, said Patimat Gamzatova.
Being an artist and a Muslim, I am more interested in the problems of the spiritual existence of man in the modern industrial world hard. It is ironic that these two contradictory concepts side by side, touching, and affecting each other. I performed artist’s Zikr, using the attributes of two opposing worlds. It is also the opposition of two models of civilization: technically advanced West and the traditional patriarchal and spiritual East.
