Blue House
30 April - 12 June 2015
During my recent residency at the 'Da Wang Cultural Highland' in Shenzhen, China, I painted on Chinese magazines published in China until the beginning of the Cultural Revolution in 1966, when they were then regarded as not communist enough. They were republished in 1979. Most of the paintings in this exhibition are based on the painted magazines done in China which will feature in my next show at the Herzliya Museum of Contemporary Art “Memory Goes as Far as this Morning”, from the poem “Delivering Newspapers” by the Chinese poet Bei Dao. “Blue House” is the title of a short stories anthology by Bei Dao that chronicle the everyday life of a Chinese poet in exile.
