It is with great pleasure Andréhn-Schiptjenko presents Peter Hagdahl’s fifth solo exhibition, Velocity, clouds and bubbles. The exhibition opens Thursday February 19, 5 pm - 8 pm, and runs through March 22.
Hagdahl (b 1956) is one of Sweden’s most prominent artists since the early 1990’s and is Professor of Art and New Media at the Royal University College of Fine Arts, where he is also responsible for Mejan Lab’s, the school’s arena for experimental extracurricular activities. Influence, change and transformation are key concepts in Hagdahl’s work. In 1992 Andréhn-Schiptjenko showed his seminal work Sustained where sculpture, painting, drawings, snapshots, press clippings and an engine created a system of different powers capable of influencing things from global oil trade to the President Bush’s upset stomach.
The possibilities for visualizing change have continued to fascinate Hagdahl and he has consequently been working with projects that in different ways investigate material and immaterial fluxes and processes.
Velocity, clouds and bubbles is a series of new works where materiality is put to the fore and uncover a multilayered field of dependencies between dynamic processes, atmospheric conditions, transformations and facts. The exhibition, consisting of photo, sculpture and video, displays the material consequences of the processes at hand. It has its point of departure in change and transformations of emotional states and feelings within individuals as well as within entire social systems. Hagdahl exposes and simultaneously investigates the construction of different complex systems, systems that in turn reflect contemporary society’s connections and dependencies.
