PAG Zeichnungen
2 March - 13 Aptil 2013

Berlin – PAG Zeichnungen (PAG drawings) will be the fourth solo exhibition of works by Stefan Löffelhardt to take place at Aurel Scheibler. The exhibition will run from 2 March until 13 April and will open on Friday 1 March from 6 p.m. to 9 p.m.
Stefan Löffelhardt’s new series of large-format drawings is centered on the concept of the universal memory, which does not limit itself to experiences and memories of an individual in his time and place, but which encompasses a multitude of sources and impressions that are timeless and borderless. ‘PAG’ stands for ‘Periaqueductal Gray’, which is part of the human brain that serves as the gatekeeper of the area in which millennia of memories are being saved – the hard disc of humankind so to speak.
The monochromatic abstract-intuitive works of Stefan Löffelhardt oscillate between force and calm. A first look leads the mind’s eye to envisage mountainous forests, cliffs, waterfalls, fleeting clouds and dust-covered cityscapes. Then the seen is forgotten and one is swept away by the large momentum made up of innumerable small linear structures. The observer meanders through utopian dream landscapes where the finely drawn patterns of this labyrinthine inner universe tread the borderline between consciousness and imagination. The same meditative state of mind from which these drawings arise, takes hold of us and urges, subtly, to slow down, to pause, to linger.
Stefan Löffelhardt (b. 1959) studied at the Academy of Fine Arts in Munich with Hans Ladner and the Art Academy in Düsseldorf with Günther Uecker. His work is represented in private and institutional collections in Germany and abroad. He lives and works in Düsseldorf.
