Stefan Bertalan
06 Jun - 24 Aug 2025
Opening: Thursday, 5.6.2025, 7 pm
In summertime, the Romanian artist Stefan Bertalan (1930–2014) will be shown in an first extensive retrospective in Germany. Bertalans interests included the realm of celestial bodies, but also of insects, and in particular of plants, whose lifecycles he observed and documented in detail. His intensive search for patterns and systems to be found in organic, plant and mineral forms ultimately led to the development of a unique, all-encompassing cosmology, which also incorporates aspects of mathematics, cybernetics, bionics, psychology and architecture. His radically interdisciplinary approach and his ongoing commitment to nature as a harmonious coexistence of organisms is highly relevant and influential for contemporary discourse.
Curated by Anja Casser and Ileana Pintilie
Supported by the Baden-Württemberg Stiftung
