DAFNA MAIMON
Human Comma Being
9 October - 1 November 2015

In her film and performative works Maimon examines the complex interrelations of identity, body and self, making transparent the dimensions of the ego as a multilayered construction and projection. Repetitive text structures, special techniques of film editing such as time-montage, loops and asynchronicity, as well as the staging of dream sequences and mise en scène characterize her working method.
In Human Comma Being Maimon is presenting her current project, which comprises two short films in combination with various object installations (in cooperation with Dutch artist Lot Meijers) and traces the question of the authentic self. Determined by a philosophical and psychoanalytical context, she interprets the self as precariously in-between, a decimal point, interruption or irritation, and presents it for discussion as an inner montage. Here, the voice as a physical interface between inside and outside plays a decisive part, advancing in Maimon’s work to the status of an independent, real character.Dafna Maimon is kindly supported by the Swedish Cultural Foundation in Finland, The Finnish Cultural Foundation, and the Embassy of the State of Israel in Berlin.
