Giulia Bowinkel & Friedemann Banz, metafurnish, Germany 2013, 24:24min The constantly revolving minimal compositions of metafurnish stir up our ways of seeing: Physical properties like gravity, loose their meaning. Reflections reveal invisible elements of their sculptural construction or objects disappear ghost-like, while preserving their influence on the spatial structure.
The suspenseful optical illusions question a value system of digitally constructed commercial images, which generates uncannily perfect surfaces, creating expectations towards architecture or design, which can not be translated into reality ultimately.
Giulia Bowinkel (*1983) and Friedemann Banz (*1980) live and work in Düsseldorf, Germany.
www.banzbowinkel.deThe on-going screening series Phantom Horizons presents digital as well as analogue works that question the paradigm of linear perspective, seeking for a new kind of “status perspective” [Bedeutungsperspektive]. The latter was a development of medieval painting, in which the size of figures is determined by their hierarchical significance. Extending this approach and combining deconstructivistic ideas with today’s possibilities of film creation, the presented works open up multifaceted, unseen horizons.
