JASPER SEBASTIAN STÜRUP
Nothing Will Corrupt Us, Nothing Will Compete
1 - 24 March 2013

Freehand drawing is characteristic of Jasper Sebastian Stürup’s artistic practice: he always works intuitively without producing a sketch beforehand, and develops the drawing from sequences and labyrinthine linking of elements. In addition to his preferred medium of drawing, he also works with artist’s books, painting, video and sculpture. Stürup’s drawings create picture worlds of delicate, reduced linear forms that incorporate scenes and characters from art, music, film or literature. Frequently, the special language and poetry characteristic of music texts or literature is also expressed in the titles of Stürup’s works. The artist takes his motifs from a collection of personal photos and images from magazines and Internet archives that he has been adding to for years.
As early as 1994, Stürup also began the production of small, limited editions of artist’s books and catalogues, which contain the artist’s drawings on specific themes, musical experiences or moods.
In the exhibition Nothing Will Corrupt Us, Nothing Will Compete Stürup, who had completely abandoned painting from 1994 to 2011, will be showing several new paintings produced since then, as well as new drawings in Rotring pens and coloured pencils, but also a series of three sculptures made from second hand furs.
