Liv Strand works primarily with time-based art forms such as experimental lectures, collaborative performances or kinetic installations involving the viewer. Her artistic practice is anchored in the principle of re-designing and re-creating, which enables her to reflect on conceptual definitions. The transfer of knowledge or perceptions from one form of expression into another creates spaces of meaning, which in turn permit the renegotiation of terms or concepts – Strand’s main interest is directed towards this possibility of ‛ambiguity’ in a positive sense.
In Künstlerhaus Bethanien Strand will be showing works produced during her stay in Berlin: for instance, an installation made from two everyday containers or a sculpture produced with the aid of newspapers, whose structure follows a mathematical algorithm. A full-wall installation comprising strips of veneer the height of a man but only millimetres thick and therefore extremely fragile – with changing minimal nuances of colour and structure – plays with ideas of sameness and difference, radiating great visual charm in the process. In addition, two texts by the artist will be presented in the exhibition space in the context of the exhibition. On September 14th, 2013 an on-going drum session will take place within the exhibition, with a small group of drummers creating and breaking rhythms.
