GESAMTPLAN DER SENNESTADT MIT GRÜNANLAGEN, ENTWURF PROF. DR. HANS B. REICHOW, HAMBURG. IN: HANS BERNHARD REICHOW, 10 JAHRE SENNESTADT - PLANUNG UND AUFBAU, STAND OKTOBER 1964, SONDERDRUCK DER DEUTSCHEN BAUZEITSCHRIFT, HEFT 1, 1965
The Sennestadtverein has invited the Bielefelder Kunstverein to organize the temporary project »Vor Ort « (On site) from May to October 2014. Under the direction of Thomas Thiel, international artists will devise and implement new works in the public space of the Sennestadt district. Sennestadt was an ambitious urban planning project of the 1950s and attracted worldwide attention. The plan by the architect, Prof. Bernhard Reichow, was based on ideas of a humane and an »organic art of urban planning«. Since 2008, his concept has been extended in the context of an urban planning development concept and of urban renovation. »Vor Ort« marks a high point of this redevelopment with sculptures and interventions in public space. The projects deal with both the history and the current situation of the urban district. The exhibition project uses the example of Sennestadt’s urban development to pose questions about the current relationship of art, the city and the public sphere.

A project by the Sennestadtverein e.V., in cooperation with Sennestadt GmbH, the urban district of Sennestadt and the Bielefelder Kunstverein in the context of the city’s anniversary 800 Years of Bielefeld.
