TIM BRADEN
At Whiteley's, Bayswater
29 November - 1 December 2013
Ancient & Modern presents an exhibition by Tim braden at Whiteley’s, bayswater, W2.
Tim braden’s paintings and intricately modelled sculptures typically mine historical anecdotes and playfully encapsulate aspects of biography, from the gardens of Roberto burle Marx to the pages of Elle decor via Sonia delaunay, oscar Fischinger and Swiss explorer isabelle Eberhardt.
Founded in 1863, Whiteley’s was London’s first department store and its current building of 1911 was the height of luxury at the time, with a golf course and theatre on the roof. There was once an art gallery at Whiteley’s, albeit entirely fictional, created as a film location for the oscarnominated “Closer” (2004).
Tim Braden (b.1976) is a graduate of Rijksakademie, Amsterdam and Ruskin School of Fine Art, oxford University. He is represented by Galerie Juliette Jongma, Amsterdam, has shown frequently with Timothy Taylor, London and was included in ‘Weekend in Valmouth’ at Ancient & Modern (2011).
