SEAN DAWSON – LO-FI-SCI-PLI – PAINTINGS
January 25 – March 08, 2008

Buchmann Galerie is very pleased to announce the second solo-exhibition with paintings by English artist Sean Dawson.

In his previous paintings Sean Dawson betrays little about the origins of the peculiar visual worlds that sometimes seem strangely technoid, sometimes biomorphic, lying somewhere between the visual language of David Cronenberg and that of Alice in Wonderland.

The new body of work shown in this exhibition is much more influenced by architecture, modernism and related imagery.

Establishing a strategy or rule system, the geometrical splincing in the new work has been very important in reconfiguring the found imagery.

Despite the engagement with the pre-process the artist ́s attention is focused to the painting ́s surface in exploring colour, mark, space and more structural painterly concerns.

The paintings achieve their own visual reality, which bizarrely seems both hyperrealistic and dreamily kaleidoscopic. The viewer plunges into an immediate visual world of nonrealistic motifs.

For Sean Dawson, the breaking up and sampling of source material has a lot to do with the structure of music and also refers to the digital and technological image generation.

Sean Dawson (b. 1964) lives and works in London. He completed his education at Saint Martins College of Art and Design and at the Royal College of Art. Sean Dawson will participate at this year ́s Prague Triennale.

For additional information on the artist and for visual materials on the new works, please do not hesitate to contact the gallery.
