TERRE THAEMLITZ
Soulnessless
Cantos I-V
5 October 2012 - 26 January2013

“The church and artists meet once again to speak, to support the necessity of a discussion that it wants and needs to become ever more intense and articulate.”
–Pope Benedict XVI, July 4, 2011

The rigorous scrutiny of the minute processes of reification and conformity to archaic norms that remain at the heart of the most advanced political and artistic practices, places Terre Thaemlitz’s work, and the economic independence that she claims through her label Comatonse Recordings, among the most radical existing today.

Having assisted in the different stages of the production of Terre Thaemlitz’s latest album, “Soulnessless” (Meditation on Wage Labor and the Death of the Album, CAC Brétigny, 2011; Traffic With the Devil and Two Letters, CAC Brétigny, 2011), the Centre d’art contemporain de Brétigny is pleased to present her major work in five cantos in an exhibition format specifically conceived for the occasion. The exhibition will be the setting for an inaugural concert in which the Thaemlitz will present the first four cantos in sequence.
