"Along the Way"

This is the first exhibition in Britain by Kerry James Marshall, one of the most innovative and influential American artists of his generation. Marshall’s politically charged pieces draw on the African American experience, on popular culture and deal with issues of black beauty and representation. With a medley of sources from comic books, graffiti and western art and mythology, his work also references the Civil Rights movement. Curated by Deborah Smith and organised by Camden Arts Centre in association with BALTIC Centre for Contemporary Art, The New Art Gallery Walsall and Modern Art Oxford. UK premiere of Orla Barry's new video 'Portable Stones'. Internationally renowned for her film art, this new 63 minute video weaves intimately intense reflections and voices together in a distinctive style, constructed like a poem but without linear narrative. "Hartley"

Well known as a fashion and portrait photographer, this display of photographs by Othello De'Souza-Hartley marks the culmination of his project 'Black in North West'. Othello De'Souza-Hartley has unearthed stories of and from the Afro-Caribbean community including role models and those involved in the Black Civil Rights movement.
