LILY LUDLOW
Pareidolia
13 November - 7 December 2014
Lily Ludlow continues to make us yearn. Ludlow presents increasingly abstract compositions which emanate light but are covered in clouds. Layers of paint sanded through to the canvas create a diffused surface. Bound together, her modeled figures intertwine and overlap. The space between them is barely distinguishable and the space around them is more of a mood or essence than a place.
Ludlow envisions the nature of romance and complexities of relationships. The push, pull and at times tearing away are reflected in the worn surfaces. Portraits in muted tones, faces blurred and shadows overcoming the figure, cutting shapes across the bed frame. Lost in reverie, a spell cast with bended arm, never tense but flowing.
Lily Ludlow was born in Los Angeles, CA and grew up in Seattle, WA. Solo shows include Shane Campbell Gallery, Chicago; Rebecca Camhi, Athens, Greece; and CANADA, New York. Her first solo show at CANADA was in 2004 and this will be her 5th. Ludlow is currently included in a group show at Hauser & Wirth curated by Rita Ackermann. She lives and works in Port Chester, New York.
