Triumphant Gestures, Teapots and Sausages by NICHOLAS PARTY

Thursday 15 July - Saturday 17 July 2010
10:00am : FREE
Venue: Intermedia Gallery
Ages: all

Nicolas Party enjoys working collaboratively, whether this means performing in a group or presenting his work amongst that of his peers. With Sausages and Teapots, the first show of tripartite Triumphant Gestures, Party has used Intermedia as the space to reveal his first solo show.

Party’s practice is bilateral, involving the investigation of space, related to both the installation and realization of the work, and the creation of drawings, paintings and prints. Employing staging strategies and the audacious use of colour and pattern, the space is visually transformed to present a series of ambitious drawings. Working directly onto the walls, these sizable dusty drawings interrogate the nature of aesthetic experience and allude to ideas of genre, convention and artifice.

Party graduated from the MFA at The Glasgow School of Art in 2009. Since then he has busied himself with a series of exhibitions and collaborations working with Christian Newby in the Project Room, Shelly Nadashi and Kate V. Robertson in Lausanne, Switzerland and participating in three shows during GI including Kiss Of Life at the Glue Factory and Bag in collaboration with Joanne Tatham and Tom O’Sullivan. He has recently been awarded New Work Scotland and has a residency in Studio Voltaire commencing in August and a show at Collective Gallery in December.
