DISAPPEARED

1 February - 1 May 2011

“Disappeared” is a photographic project from the photojournalist specializing in conflict zones, Gervasio Sánchez, centring on the subject of the forced disappearance of people, with examples having occurred in 11 countries: Chile, Argentina, Peru, Colombia, El Salvador, Guatemala, Iraq, Afghanistan, Cambodia, Bosnia and, by way of epilogue, Spain.

Based on direct knowledge of places and circumstances, and contact with the families of the missing people, the photographs include detention and torture centres (prisons, etc.), exhumations and mass graves, the processes of identification of victims, and the families’ experiences recorded by hundreds of portraits in which they appear with objects and photographs of the disappeared.

The exhibition will be presented simultaneously at the Museo de Arte Contemporáneo de León (MUSAC), La Casa Encendida in Madrid and the CCCB.
