Contemporary Fine Arts is pleased to present new works by the Israeli-Danish artist Tal R. Building on the works that were shown for the first time at the gallery a year ago, this exhibition now focuses on the second part of this recently developed work group that marks a radical break with Tal R’s previous technique. The entire series was recently shown in a comprehensive solo exhibition at the Kunstverein Hamburg.

For Tal R’s current body of work from the last two years, he uses a mixture of rabbit glue made of rabbit bones as well as different pigments which he applies directly to an unprimed canvas. As the glue dries quickly, a specific idea of the final result is required. What has once been painted cannot be changed. The paint is applied very thinly and flatly, brushstrokes are not apparent. The works lack the special style, the aura of oil painting owing to the dry and rough surface, which creates the effect of a slightly dull surface, reminiscent of a fresco. On some works, the artist then draws with wax crayons on the painted surface.

This is the eighth solo exhibition with Tal R. He lives and works in Copenhagen.
