CLéMENT RODZIELSKI SOLO EXHIBITION

January 15, 2010

Berlin - Paris. Un échange de galeries.
avec Carlos Cardenas
15.01.-23.01.2010

Die Menschen finden sich in dieser Welt zum Leben, is a verse borrowed from one of Hölderlin’s last poems, which was amongst those he backdated and signed by the name Scardanelli.

The exhibition’s main work – Untitled (pour les pauvres) – is the same 1895 Hermann-Paul poster reproduced 12 times, and then differenciated by a thin layer of color applied with colored marker. “Die Tage gehn vorbei mit sanffter Lüfte Rauschen” - another verse by Hölderlin as Scardanelli. “The days drift by on the whispers of the wind” . The colors drift by on the whispers of the wind. This work stretches along the entire space of the gallery. However, the onlooker’s ideal viewpoint is strongly jeopardized by the different levels of the gallery architecture.

Elsewhere, an old drawing, made when I was looking for work as an illustrator, is incorrectly dated from 1871 ; 1871 being the date Courbet used to backdate “The Trout” in order for it to coincide with his incarceration at the prison of Sainte-Pélagie.

In a way, the narrative of this show is the story of a boomerang that was thrown so far out that the owner caught it much later, after the boomerang had made a detour in the past, returing as the original piece of wood from which it was carved.

In Motto, the the bookstore adjacent to the gallery, we find the latest issue of Palme, a small magazine I edit, this time featuring Jean-Baptiste Bouvet.
