Florian Hecker (b. 1975, Augsburg, Germany) works largely with synthetic sound, engaging with specific compositional developments of post-war modernity, electroacoustic music, as well as non-musical disciplines. Since 1996 Hecker has given a multitude of performances, audio presentations and concerts internationally in major concert halls and festivals for contemporary electronic music. Parallel to this, he developed his own sound research in the context of contemporary art. His work has been presented in both solo and group exhibitions, in galleries, museums and contemporary art centres. In 2012, the same year that he participated at the Documenta in Kassel, he held a solo exhibition at Lumiar Cité, in Lisbon. The current exhibition (the most extensive and complex exhibition of Florian Hecker to date) stages a sequence of sound pieces in a complex dramatization of auditory events and sonic objects, in close relation to the particular architecture of the Culturgest gallery in Porto.
