About the relationship between the real world and the parallel world
20 July - 21 September 2013
Curated by Miguel Wandschneider
Jos de Gruyter (Geel, Belgium, 1965) and Harald Thys (Wilrijk, Belgium, 1966) have been working together since the late 1980s. Over the years, they have produced countless video works, for which they are best known, but their work also frequently includes photographs, sculptures and drawings. Finding their inspiration in everyday reality, and making use of an absurd sense of humour, Jos de Gruyter and Harald Thys ruthlessly caricature our human condition. After the two exhibitions that they held at Culturgest (the first in Lisbon, in 2009, the second in Porto, in 2012), and coinciding with the publication of the book Objects as Friends, the video About the relationship between the real world and the parallel world (2010) is now presented, an entertaining and didactic elucidation of the parallel worlds into which this artistic duo have ventured.
