HARUN FAROCKI
Ein neues Produkt
21 June – 26 August 2012

From June 21 to August 12, House of Photography at Deichtorhallen Hamburg will be premiering Harun Farocki’s video production »Ein neues Produkt«. The piece was created in the context of the »Neue Auftraggeber« initiative and realized as part of the collaboration with »Kunst und Kultur in der HafenCity«.

The »Neue Auftraggeber« (New Clients) initiative involves curators from many European countries and seeks to develop a new approach to art in public space: citizens from different walks of society are given the opportunity to work closely with an artist and a curator to co-manage art projects that focus on their respective local context.

For the Hamburg project, Harun Farocki worked together with staff from the corporate consultancy »Quickborner Team«. »QT« has, among others, advised several companies that have relocated to HafenCity. Where new living space is being created the companies are busy exploring how to create new working spaces. How can corporations approach new urban space? What role does architecture place in relation to the organization of work processes? How are changes in society reflected in corporate structures? Farocki spent over a year covering meetings »QT« held on developing a new consultancy product – and in the way a group of staff members became participants in an artistic process.

Born in 1944 in Novy Jicin, Farocki has since 1966 completed over 100 productions for TV or cinema, including TV programming for children, documentaries, essay films and story films. From 1993-9 he was visiting professor at the University of California, Berkeley. Since 2004 he has been visiting professor and since 2006 tenured Professor at the Vienna Academy of Fine Arts. In 2007 he took part in documenta 12.
