Dvir Gallery is delighted to announce the opening of a new group show hosting works by three Polish-born artists: Miroslaw Balka (b.1958, Warsaw), Rafal Jakubowicz (b.1974, Poznan), Marzena Nowak (b.1977, Warsaw). Works in show include a video-based sculpture and a sculptural object (made uniquely for the occasion of the show at Dvir) by Balka, and two recent video works by Jakubowicz and Nowak.
The show allows a glimpse into the practice of three major artists living and working in Poland today (Miroslaw Balka, the veteran of the three, is one of Poland’s best-known living artists today). The common background of the three artists includes projects carried by well-know Warsaw-based Foksal Gallery, as well as few joint collaborations carried out in the realms of art theory and art practice. The show is an open invitation for the audience to explore works created by three artists coming from the same artistic tradition yet from two different generations. The choice of works in the show suggests different modes of artistic engagement with some of the burning issues with which post-communist and post-WW2 Poland confronts today.
