“Decoration is a fear of the void and with wallpaper you have a cheap and quick way of filling space of filling the void.”
This was, according to Irish artist Mark Kent, the common perception of wallpaper. However in his opinion this is a misunderstanding and his art exemplifies that.
His wallpapers do more than filling voids. The asymmetric patterns are always on the point of being discovered, but never are, thus slowing down the brain, inducing a meditative state –hypnotising and hallucinative- a calm clear state of mind.
The patterns itself are complex and inextricable, hardly to follow in the way they were created. Working in his inimitable process, he alternates painting with computer interventions - back and forth- in which these complex patterns emerge, that couldn’t be invented without the interference of digital distortion, voids and black-outs.
Mark Kent will show five new printed wallpapers and new paintings on canvas and paper.
During the opening at 17.30 h. Egill Sæbjörnsson will give a performance
