Complicity is a micro-community alliance that operates on the periphery of established ordering systems. Its critical potential emerges from the multitude of subversive modi operandi in the grey zone of deceitful agreements. Artists, curators, critics, consumers... the vast number of possible positions complicates collectivity and multiplies the contradictions of complicity. Five facets of alternative artistic thinking and method inform the concept of Critical Complicity / Kritische Komplizenschaft: The transitions from macro to micro-community; the field of tension between legal/illegal; affect and seduction; the moment of interdependency; and the employment of tactical media. However, only the interconnection of these fields amongst each other can do justice to the complexity of critical complicity. Thus, what the participants in this exhibition have in common is the concern to deconstruct the singular.
