Quantity as Quality
01 Feb - 03 Mar 2007
Pawel Althamer, Carol Bove, Deborah Ligorio, Wolf von Kries, Tilman Wendland, Cathy Wilkes, Andreas Zybach
Curated by Fanny Gonella
Quantity is usually associated with mass production or mass-produced cheap material and not related to quality. However, the large availability of an element can provide pleasure precisely through its easy accessibility and availability. Many people can share an experience, which is not exclusive. The artists invited here deal in their work with the idea of easy access to a material or its transformation for a new use, playing with the paradox of rarity and with the generosity of common experiences. But this easiness can also reflect the vanity of consumerism and the fragility of the moment of a shared experience: the contradictions of the idea of quantity.
