HANS JOSEPHSOHN
Existential Sculpture
30 March – 24 June 2018

The retrospective pays tribute to a key exponent of twentieth-century figurative sculpture. The Swiss artist Hans Josephsohn (1920–2012) is one of the most important modernist sculptors in post-war Europe. His extensive sculptural oeuvre with its unique and unmistakeable style combines questions about humanity’s existential condition with an examination of sculptural techniques and their effectiveness today. The exhibition Existenzielle Plastik (Existential Sculpture) at the Museum Folkwang brings together sculptures by the artist that range from his early pieces in the 1950s to his brilliant late work from the 1990s on.
