ELENA BLASCO
"A Girl With a Nail Idea"
Fúcares Gallery in Madrid is pleased to present a solo exhibition of Elena Blasco’s recent work. This show is made up of 18 paintings of acrylic on transparent acetate. Working with transparencies involves overlaps, superimposed elements, coincidences, fragmentations, random incidents, an unplanned amount of colour... All these factors, overlapped and crowded together, are those upon which the artist has built her latest work.
Superposition creates space, but it also conceals and fragments whatever has been hidden, establishes “layers” in time (the last layers are the first to be seen); she does not recount, but “cooks up”. That which is already known just becomes raw material for a new formulation that shifts hierarchies and meanings; she skips any notion of scale and generates new life.
In contrast with former exhibitions, the artist has not focussed on the use of different materials and techniques, employing such blends as just another technical resource. But, as usual, she handles with absolute freedom different artistic languages, topics, scales, an apparent innocence along with a sense of humour...
There exists a girl with a nail idea: she never tires of seeing which new things may now appear again... New again.
