AVPD
6 September - 12 November, 2011
Galeria Leme presents AVPD in their second solo exhibition in Brazil. Formed by Aslak Vibæk and Peter Dossing the artists create works that deals with optical illusions, affecting the spectator’s perception in a cognitive, emotional and intellectual way. The works of AVPD follows the minimalism, with subtle and precise compositions.
This will be the last exhibition before Galeria Leme moves to a new address. The concept of original project designed by the 2006 Pritzker Prize winner architect Paulo Mendes da Rocha will be maintained in the new building. AVPD was chosen to conclude this stage because they represent this displacement process, changing the point of view through shapes, colors and lights presenting interdisciplinary works that combine art, architecture and physics.
AVPD’s inspiration comes from science fiction film, literature, computer games and virtual architectures. They concentrate on spatial, conceptual installations and physical spaces.
The exhibition brings the installation Diagonal View, a long corridor with a mirror inside. Upon entering the installation, the corridor visually expands, creating a conflict between vision and perception. This work is based on installation Broken View shown in 2010 at Kunsten - Museum of Modern Art, Aalborg, Denmark.
They will also present four new series of works. Bleach, using paper sheets of different shades exposed to sunlight for a month, changing the color of the exposed part to a lighter shade than the original; this work is an experiment with time and light referring to the beginning of photography. In Translucency, they create works with overlays and transparencies, and the series Cut and Points they create subtle illusions with lines and points.
