MARIO YBARRA JR.
"be good...if you can't be good be careful..."
Notte delle Arti Contemporanee – Saturday Night Art Fever
Opening Saturday 10th of November 2007, 9.30 - 12 pm
Mario Ybarra Jr. has worked internationally on a trilogy of large scale murals. "Brown and Proud" 2006 mural for the exhibition "Alien Nation" curated by Jens Hoffmann at the ICA London, "If I Rise...You Rise" 2007 for "What Went Wrong" section of Prague Bienial curated by Andrea Bellini and "Promised Land" 2007 in San Francisco for the Wattis ICA as "capp street resident".
These murals have decidedly allowed Ybarra to develop several applied painting techniques he has yet to commit to paintings. These large murals are also ephemeral in that they do not have permanent homes in the institutions they were painted in.
The murals are painted out at the end of the exhibition run.
Ybarra will use the Maze Gallery as a working painting studio for the week leading up to the exhibition.
He is going to realize 7 large scale paintings that relate to the experience he has gained as painter in making these murals while using maze gallery as his italian studio.
