The Wooden O

ZERO... is pleased to present The Wooden O, a solo exhibition by Pietro Roccasalva.

The artist has developed over the years an imaginary that derives from the sedimentation and the continuous layering of references and citations from diverse fields, from cinema to philosophy, from literature to art history.
The artistic practice of Roccasalva, often compared to a Gothic construction site, is characterized by the creation of open situations in which different elements interact with each other and recurrent subjects continuously come back, referring to previous works or anticipating possible developments, following an internal logic of continuous mise en abyme.

On the occasion of the exhibition, Roccasalva presents new works drawn from his most recent and well known pictorial series: the painting Il Traviatore, a waiter portrayed showing a juicer on an otherwise empty tray, and a group of works whose subjects are taken from the installation and tableau vivant Just Married Machine made in 2012.

Next to them, the exhibition also presents the installation The Wooden O, which gives the title to the entire project, consisting of a neon sign and a fresco which introduces for the first time as key protagonist a character that already appeared in previous works.

Pietro Roccasalva was born in Modica in 1970. He lives and works in Milan.
