THANASSIS TOTSIKAS

08.12.2006 - 20.01.2007

Opening Friday 08.12.2006, 20:00

For his new solo show at gazonrouge Thanasis Totsikas revisits painting. The exhibition mainly consists of natural landscape compositions that encircle the artist’s idiomorphic and makeshift living spaces, which are based on the concept of impressionistic painting reminiscent of Cezanne and Bonar. These paintings, made in situ in the artist’s nomadic dwellings near Agiokampos, Larissa, not only impress nature’s enigmatic beauty and the inescapable ending of the contemporary city but also comprise a timely commentary on the need of inventiveness, the viability of personal space and the revision of innovative agreement through a clean and sensitive glance.

These new works by Totsikas, apart from posing as reconciliation, are like the fruits that the producer provides the market, both in the contemporary and ancient meaning of the word. For him, the specific act of exhibiting is in itself an event: a self- luminescent project that escapes the content of the show, without threatening its meaning and insulting the sanctified moments that each work contains.
