The new exhibition and an art prize EXTRACT hosted by Kunstforeningen GL STRAND, brings together some of the most talented young artists, who in the current year graduated from art academies in Denmark, Frankfurt and London. The seven artists participating in the exhibition reveal a media-conscious generation preoccupied with history, cultural codes and human existence.

With EXTRACT GL STRAND continues its long engagement in promoting young
artists and their work. GL STRAND’s Director Helle Behrndt says: “We wish to continue giving the public an idea of what is happening among graduating artists – not just in Denmark, but also in other important cultural centers of the world, where art academies have acquired a strong reputation and position among artists. The young artists often find themselves in a vacuum in the aftermath of their graduation, lacking a strong foundation from which to move forward and get attention. EXTRACT will constitute a platform which allows the artists involved to cultivate new networks among other young artists and establish contacts to the international art scene”.

One of the participating artists will be awarded the EXTRACT Prize, a travel grant of 50,000 DKK. The winner is selected by an international jury. Furthermore the public can vote and their favorite will be granted a solo show at GL STRAND.

The participating artists in EXTRACT 2011-12 are:
Ea Borre (graduated from Jutland Art Academy, Aarhus), Meri Sidsel Gustafsson (graduated from Funen Art Academy, Odense), Mads Thomsen (graduated from the Royal Danish Academy of Fine Arts, Copenhagen), Soheila Sokhanvari (graduated from Goldsmiths College, London), Stefan Sulzer (graduated from Goldsmiths College, London), Naneci Yurdagül (graduated from Städelschule, Frankfurt), Sandra Havlicek (graduated from Städelschule, Frankfurt).

The EXTRACT jury members this year are:
Maria Lind, director at Tensta Konsthall, Sweden, Kati Kivinen, curator at KIASMA, Finland and Helle Behrndt director at GL STRAND.

The exhibition is funded and the prize is donated by Det Obelske Familiefond (The Obel Family Foundation).
