Unfinished Journeys / Copenhagen Art Festival

24 Aug - 11 Nov 2012

During Copenhagen Art Festival GL STRAND sheds light on the Journey as a characteristic feature of the modern world and its influential impact on how we as people interact with each other in an ever-expanding world without borders. With this as the main theme it is with great pleasure that we welcome you to a spectacular array of Danish and International artists, which each individually works with the travel motif in a variety of different forms of expression.

Being able to move over distances, seeking out new people, new contexts, places and opportunities outside one’s own geographical area is a central feature of our lives today. In acknowledging ourselves as hybrids, the journey becomes a possibility to find new ways for self realization and personal development. The exhibition thus examines the journey as an existential feature and how it has shaped our ways of living – both in terms of the negative effects of globalization in matters of migration and colonization and in contrast its effects on the mental state of mind within the context of cultural identity development.
