WILFREDO PRIETO
Nude
16 May - 28 Jun
Martin van Zomeren is pleased to present the second solo show by the Cuban artist Wilfredo Prieto.
Conciseness and imagination define 'Nude', the latest work by Wilfredo Prieto.
The artist’s concept is eloquently revealed through the objects he uses such as fat, soap, bananas, a pair of limes and a flipped shoe sole, among others.
Prieto’s body of work is identified by pure sensibility, fresh and clever
in its subtleness.
In his second solo show at Martin van Zomeren, Prieto will present one installation.
'Nude' deals with the female nude in art, which was used over centuries as a given iconography, being formal and misleading at the same time. The artist uses the space as a scenery, and brings intimacy to an audience in a cinematic way, exploring the poetic of fragmentation.
Wilfredo Prieto (1978, Cuba) works and lives in Havana and Barcelona. His recent exhibitions include ‘Mountain’ at SMAK, Gent, ‘Greenwashing’, at the Fondazione Sandretto Re Rebaudengo , Torino, ‘Apolitico’, an outdoor installation at the Tuilleries, (Le Louvre, Paris) and the 52nd Venice Biennale. Upcoming presentations include Art Basel 08 (Statement)
and Liste 08, Basel.
Prieto is the winner of the 2008 Cartier Award. For that he will present a new work at the Frieze Art Fair.
