Light Solidarity
1 July – 2 September 2017

Galerija Gregor Podnar is pleased to present Light Solidarity, Vadim Fishkin’s (b. 1965 in Penza, USSR) sixth solo exhibition with the gallery. The work of this Ljubljana based artist comprises objects, sculptures and installations that challenge the concepts of materiality and immateriality of ideas.

The works presented at Light Solidarity are described as a poetical existence between elements such as light, time, and movement, resulting in a humorous yet deep understanding of the representation of material objects. Dematerialisation is not Fishkin’s final goal, on the contrary, it’s a form that allows him new ways of understanding and representing reality. Installations and sculptures will be the focus of the exhibition allowing to dive into Fishkin’s stage.

Light Chaser is an installation in which twenty spotlights are displayed on the floor creating a circumference. Inside the rounded area there is a mini solar car which is fuelled and pushed when one of the lights goes on. Each light turns on after the next one, hence creating an unlimited round path for the car. The speed of light appears rather as a visible force and less as a physical constant. This relationship between immaterial concepts and physical objects is also found in Solidarity 3D. This consists of three beamers, each one casting a face of a polyhedron. The manual setting of each video beam, results in the projection of a solid figure on the wall. The poetical balance found in this particular artwork reflects a constant in many other of Fishkin’s works where the invisible takes shape.

Vadim Fishkin is participating at this year’s 57th International Art Exhibition La Biennale di Venezia curated by Christine Macel.
