ANISH KAPOOR
16 March - 12 October 2010
The Guggenheim Museum Bilbao presents a monographic exhibition on Anish Kapoor, one of the most influential sculptors on the contemporary international scene. The show was tremendously successful at the Royal Academy of Arts in London and has been organized in close collaboration with the artist.
Born in Bombay (India) in 1954 and a graduate of London's Hornsey College of Art and the Chelsea School of Art, Kapoor made the leap to international fame in the early 1980s thanks to his explorations of the abstract sculptural form, his monumental installations and his public outdoor art projects. The Bilbao show features several spectacular series that Kapoor has created since 1979 using tactile or highly reflective materials: pure bright pigments, blood-red wax, painted fiberglass, stone, polished stainless steel and, more recently, cement. These pieces reveal Kapoor's interest in the relationship between the spectator and the objects in a given space.
