The Basis of Make-Up
08 Dec 2007 - 24 Feb 2008

This monographic exhibition constitutes the first comprehensive presentation of filmmaker Heinz Emigholz’s interdisciplinary project The Basis of Make-Up. It comprises over 200 artistically designed notebooks alongside 550 drawings and the film trilogy THE BASIS OF MAKE-UP I, II and III (with a combined length of over 90 minutes). The black-and-white presentation designed by Emigholz unites the different media of this major body of work within the space. On the basis of the early notebooks and the drawings translated into photographs, wall drawings, films and carpets, the exhibition offers viewers an impressive insight into the genesis of The Basis of Make-Up in its entirety.
As part of the Berlinale programme, Heinz Emigholz’s new film on the architect Frederick Kiesler, KIESLER’S PROJEKTIONS, will also receive its world premiere within the context of the exhibition.
