WORKS OF MUSIC BY VISUAL ARTISTS
Scores: Saâdane Afif, Christian Marclay, Ari Benjamin Meyers, Jorinde Voigt
28 October – 13 November 2016
SCORES is an exhibition and concert project in the series "Works of Music by Visual Artists." It is devoted to the subject of the musical score, which since the 1960s has been understood as a versatile recording medium going well beyond traditional notation. The contributions of Saâdane Afif, Christian Marclay, Ari Benjamin Meyers and Jorinde Voigt use various media – text and object, video and comic, drawing and concept – to place this subject at the focus of an exhibition accompanied by concerts. Almost all of the works and scores are commissioned pieces, created in close collaboration with musicians and ensembles. The scores will be presented in the generous spaces of the Rieckhallen, where they will also be successively performed. Audio recordings of these concerts will be played continuously in the exhibition for visitors to hear.
A project by Freunde Guter Musik Berlin e.V., in cooperation with the Nationalgalerie im Hamburger Bahnhof – Museum für Gegenwart – Berlin, Staatliche Museen zu Berlin. Made possible by Hauptstadtkulturfonds and Ernst Schering Foundation.
