Yervant Gianikian and Angela Ricci Lucchi are visual artists who use film as their starting point for a wide-ranging reflection on the use of images and their inherent ambivalence.

In the early 1970s the pair began an exploration that has led to the discovery of footage they have retrieved from the archives of the great filmmakers of the past or happened upon in the course of their travel adventures.

Using the “Camera Analitica”, a device of their own invention, the frames of the old films are projected manually, rephotographed and re-edited to produce new narratives of great evocative power which address the important themes of twentieth and twenty-first century history such as colonial violence, the major wars, exile and the migration of peoples, all seen through the eyes of the anonymous multitudes.

Non Non Non, the first retrospective of installations and works by Yervant Gianikian and Angela Ricci Lucchi, includes seven original films and a display conceived by the artists containing drawings, watercolours and a video. The films shown in the HangarBicocca together make up a large audiovisual fresco, projecting one after the other the installations they have designed since 2000 for exhibition and museum spaces.
