Oscar-winner Tanovic (No Man's Land) directs his camera at a real-life family in Bosnia and Herzegovina who barely eke out a living collecting and selling scrap metal.

Living in a remote shantytown, husband Nazif spends his days earning just enough money to support his loving wife Senada and two young daughters. When Senada has a miscarriage, the family can’t afford the healthcare she needs – and as Roma, they have no government safety net. In this dramatic recreation of actual events, the consequences are dire, and throw into sharp focus the plight of Roma people, for whom Tanovic has obvious and passionate sympathies.

Shot on a minuscule budget over nine harsh midwinter days, this is docudrama at its starkest; it will leave audiences not just moved, but also with a better understanding of Roma society.
