Ifa Gallery Stuttgart presents a major monographic exhibition devoted to Studio Mumbai. Entitled "Between the Sun and the Moon", the exhibition showcases the firm's unique approach. Founded in 2005 by US-trained Indian architect Bijoy Jain, Studio Mumbai has developed a body of work inspired by both Indian and Western culture. What sets Bijoy Jain's approach apart is a brilliant combination of tradition and modernity, in which local resources and traditional Indian craft skills form the basis for strongly contemporary buildings, nourished by reality and distinct from increasingly widespread international architectural output. Thoughtful and uncompromising to the last detail, this is architecture that cares deeply about the relationship between Man and Nature.
The exhibition initiated and curated by arc en rêve centre d'architecture in Bordeaux focuses on the work processes at Studio Mumbai. By way of introduction, Bijoy Jain shares his views on India, the vast sub-continent that provides him with an inexhaustible source of inspiration. As visitors walk through the main gallery, they will discover the range of projects undertaken at Studio Mumbai, from the initial intuitions that form while visiting a site to the ultimate build that tells its own story. The exhibition layout echoes the space of Studio Mumbai itself. References, resources, prototypes and projects are all here: projects in the making, designed to be implemented by hand with great economy of means and resources, always involving a negotiation with climate and slow pace.

that is a paean to patience: a body of work that is imbued with great sensitivity and
unfailingly open to the world at large.
