The second exhibition of the series "On stage: Nature – Living at the edge" presents artistic works that deal with man-made disasters. It also includes works which investigate into the aesthetic side of catastrophes and the fascination they exert on people. All times and all cultures knew visions of the end of the world. The technical developments of the last 150 years, however, have brought about disasters of until now unknown dimensions, like the Chernobyl disaster, the drying of the Lake Aral, or the toxic gas accidents at Bhopal and Seveso. These are the incidents around which the exhibition is centred. At the same time, the exhibition not only wants to investigate aesthetically into environmental problems but also to inform. The exhibitions at the ifa galleries in Berlin and Stuttgart intentionally combine different media to themes in order to render visible complex cultural relations.
