JAROMIR NOVOTNY
"Transition Point"
October 14 - November 28, 2009
Opening Reception: Tuesday, October 13, 2009, 5 – 7 p.m.
The presentation of Jaromir Novotny’s paintings is made of works created mostly in this year. According to the author, the name Transition Point suggests a boundary in more than one form and meaning. The transition points – be it permeable or non-permeable surfaces – are mainly the works themselves. Some exceed the general perception of form and nature of a painting with their format. Some paintings are almost black; the colour scheme is therefore also on the borderline.
ABOUT THE ARTIST
Jaromir Novotny ́s primary intuitive effort is to maintain a relationship to reality in the form of traces of representation. Illusive space works as evidence of non-abstraction as confirmation of the connection between the image and the reality. No matter how very important the physical impact of the painting (colours, surfaces) is for the painter, it never leads to a fusion of representation and the image’s surface itself. It only concerns a very close approximation. Therefore a minimalist dark surface can still be perhaps a window or a display window.
