Profit and Loss
Opening reception:
Wednesday 3 August @ 6:00 pm
Exhibition runs from 3- 27 August 2005
Profit and Loss
This exhibition consists of artworks which problematise notions of authority, aspiration and conformity. Daehnke reflects the anxiety of the pressure to conform and perform in the hypercommodified and dislocating, late capitalist postcolonial world we live in. Daehnke bases her paintings on historical texts and images which she recontextualises and manipulates through changing scale, layering disparate images and through her innovative use of materials.
Nadja Daehnke was born in 1971 in Johannesburg. She has a Bachelor and Masters of Fine Arts Degree, both cum laude from the University of Cape Town. She has been awarded numerous awards and scholarships for her work and has participated in many national and international exhibitions. Daehnke has also lectured in both painting and art theory at numerous tertiary educational institutions.
