When the Inside Stays Inside

When things go wrong, it's hard to get the right words out. This is evident in a new installation of objects and video projections by Ruth Sacks. The positive message "Don't panic" mutates into "panic". When the Inside Stays Inside is an exhibition where nothing seems to fit into its proper place. Obscure South African dorpies are hyped into designer glitter-print t-shirts. Obese taxidermised pigeons and a billboard-sized Chanel No. 5 logo get inserted along side ambiguous texts which have been scrawled above the Cape Town skyline. "Please Don't" is neurotically engraved without any clear motivation orientation. Bits of everyday life have been reconstituted to create an alternative, idiosyncratic environment. A mechanised cardboard box literally tries to escape the space. This show forms part of an ongoing series of interventions and collaborations. For this stage of the project, different ventures have been linked together within the confines of a commercial art space.
