The Outside In titles Sarah Nesbit's first solo exhibition of her most recent series of paintings which exist in a space between landscape, memory and abstraction. The ethereal depth of color and space in Nesbit's work is a result of her nostalgic practice of using egg-tempera on panel as well as her ongoing process of peeling away layers of paint, and working with residue to slowly uncover the final image. Her paintings describe long forgotten moments from childhood. This is a time when the external world is filled with the unknown, full of potential and room for the imagination which is an experience that is often lost in the transition to adulthood.
Sarah Nesbit (b. 1976) lives and works in Chicago. She received her MFA from the School of the Art Institute of Chicago in 2005, and was included in "Mystic Truths" at Kavi Gupta Gallery last summer. This is Sarah Nesbit's first solo exhibition.
