Vladislav Mamyshev-Monroe (1969–2013) was a central figure in the generation of artists who came to prominence in Leningrad in the 1980s. Mamyshev-Monroe had a special talent of adopting different roles in a lifelong performance in which he turned himself into art.

In his pictures, Mamyshev-Monroe often assumes the role of some great and tragic historical figure. His endless cast of characters included famous people from the history of

Russia from Catherine the Great to Dostoevsky to Lenin, as well as Marilyn Monroe, Jesus, Dracula, Mona Lisa, Osama Bin Laden and even Vladimir Putin. Produced in cooperation with the Moscow Museum of Modern Art, the exhibition will include landmark photographic series and videos from the 1990s and 2000s.
